Kwara Govt Stops Paying Pensioners

Kwara State government has halted the monthly allowance benefits to 6,437 retirees in the state which took effect from July 2022. 


This happened as a result of their failure to finish the verification exercise conducted for retired people by the state government.


The state authority, in a press proclamation titled "Kwara State Government Receives Interim Report on Pensioners' Verification", given in Ilorin on Saturday said that the retirees neglected to present their records to a screening board comprised for the activity.


In the report the Focus News got from THE PUNCH correspondent endorsed by the state Chief Press Secretary, Murtala Atoyebi, the public authority expressed that out of a sum of 16,368 retirees in the state, just 9,931 beneficiaries were confirmed by the council.


It said, "The Kwara State Government has gotten a break report on the check practice on the State Pensioners.


"The State Government got a monetary consortium in December last year to do a checking practice on the State Pensioners because of the tricky difficulties hindered the smooth payment of pensioners.


The Interim Report presented by the body demonstrated that a sum of 16,368 retirees was handled for screening out of which just 9,931 were checked legitimately."


It added, "a sum of 6,437 beneficiaries neglected to partake in the screening process which was organized in across the 16 Local Government Areas of the State to facilitate the weight of the matured individuals.


"Subsequently, the state authority has coordinated the Office of the State Accountant General to suspend forthwith, payment to the affected pensioners from this month (July ) until they are cleared.


"The Government urged all those with discrepancies in their documentation to quickly clear such with the Consultant while those that neglected to show up for the screening exercise ought to go to the Staff Development College, Ilorin for their screening, beginning from Monday, August 1, 2022," the assertion said.
