At last, Court Frees Ahmed Idris

The Federal High Court in Abuja has granted bail to the suspended Accountant General of Federation, Ahmed Idris over the allegations of misappropriation of public funds amounting to N109.5 billion.

Idris and his co-defendants were granted bail Thursday as he met up with the laid down terms and conditions set by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC)

According to the court ruling, the defendants have been banned from traveling out of the country or leaving the federal capital territory except with the permission of the court as their passports have been convicted by the court and had been restricted by the law to obtain a new passport.

Justice Adeyemi Ajayi who ruled over the sitting added that they are not allowed to obtain a new passport until the case will be resolved. He said, their bail will be revoked if they behaved otherwise.

The trial judge decided on the basis that the defendants’ accusers had not yet been proven.

Despite all the 14 counts of allegations leveled against him, the court ruled that the defendants are entitled to bail under the law.
