68 Years Old Woman Gave Birth To Twins in Lagos

A 68-year-old woman gave birth to twins I Lagos  at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital, Idi Araba.

According to the report at our disposal, Focus News learned that the woman was pregnant for the first time following an In Vitro Fertilisation (IVF).

She gave birth to twins – a boy and a girl – through a process called elective Caesarean section on April 14.

According to Prof Wasiu Adeyemo, the CMAC of LUTH said. “She was thereafter referred to LUTH at early gestation stage and subsequently managed till term.”

He reiterated, “The IVF and embryo transfer were done at an outside facility,  this is the first time such feat will be recorded in Africa," he added.

However, in global record, there are sometimes old women who gave birth to baby at old ages in history of which a 74-year-old woman giving birth in southern India was among.

Also In 2015, a 56-year-old German woman, Annegret Raunigk, who already had 13 children was delivered of quadruplets after conceiving through artificial insemination done in Ukraine.

This incident is similitude to one Mangayamma Yaramati that became pregnant for the first time after conceiving through In Vitro Fertilisation (IVF). She was also delivered of twins, both girls, through a Caesarean section.
